Common Questions
We don't believe in mystery ingredients. While other brands might get away with listing "spices" and calling it a day, we believe you deserve to know exactly what you're eating. That's why we list every single ingredient - no vague labels and no surprises.
Whether you're avoiding cinnamon like it's your ex, or hunting down every blend that includes it, you'll be able to see exactly what's in each jar. It's all part of our commitment to clean, transparent, and totally trustworthy flavor.
Our ingredients are certified organic, handcrafted in small batches, and thoughtfully packaged using sustainable materials. We never use fillers, preservatives, or artificial additives.
Unlike mass-produced grocery store spices, we don't keep large volumes of pre-made blends sitting in storage. Instead, we blend in small batches and replenish often, so what you receive is exceptionally fresh and full of pure, vibrant flavor - just the way it should be.
We partner with two trusted, certified organic, West Coast suppliers who specialize in importing and testing spices from sustainable farms around the world. These partners share our commitment to quality, integrity, and fair trade practices. We're also working toward our own organic certification to further reinforce our dedication to transparency and sustainability.
Yes. At Spice Craze®, we source certified organic ingredients for all of our spice blends, as well as our individual herbs, spices, chiles, and peppercorns. These products are also non-GMO.
Choosing organic may help protect you and your family from 700+ chemicals commonly used in conventional farming, food production, and product manufacturing. Sourcing organic ingredients is one of the many ways we're committed to offering clean, trustworthy products you can feel good about using every day.
Spice Craze® is about to undertake the organic certification process. While Spice Craze® is not yet certified organic, all noted ingredients are organic and Spice Craze® is registered by the State of California as an Organic Processed Product food manufacturer.
Not at this time. Spice Craze® products are handcrafted in a shared commercial kitchen facility on equipment where Milk, Wheat, Soy, Peanuts, Eggs, Tree Nuts, Crustacean Shellfish, Fish, and Sesame may also be processed, subject to an appropriate allergen control program.
As a proud business member of 1% for the Planet®, Spice Craze® gives back to nonprofit organizations that focus on water quality, healthy food systems, and other environmental issues.
We have pledged to donate 1% of our annual, company-wide product sales to help do our part to leave the planet better than we found it.
Product & Usage Questions
Absolutely! A few simple techniques can help you unlock the full potential of your spices and bring more depth to every dish:
- Layer your seasoning. Season in stages - early, during, and after cooking - for more balanced, developed flavor.
- Wake them up. Toast whole spices or spice blends in a dry pan for 30-60 seconds to release their natural oils and intensify the flavor.
- Bloom in oil. Cooking spices briefly in oil or butter (or ghee) before adding other ingredients deepens their aroma and complexity.
- Add citrus. A squeeze of lemon or lime with spice blends (especially those with cumin or chile) brightens and lifts the dish.
- Finish with a sprinkle. Some spices shine best after cooking. Try adding a final dash just before serving for extra aroma and depth.
- For perfect roasted veggies, season with oil and spice before roasting, then finish with a fresh sprinkle before serving to boost flavor.
- Stir into sauces and dips. Mix spice blends into mayo, yogurt, or sour cream for easy, flavorful dips. (Try adding Spice Craze® Garlic Pepper and a squeeze of fresh lemon into mayo for a super simple and delicious artichoke dip. You won't regret it!)
It depends on the dish, but here's a quick guide:
- Meats & Proteins - 1 tsp per pound (or more for extra flavor)
- Veggies - ½-1 tsp per cup
- Soups & Sauces - start with ½ tsp per quart
- Baked Goods - ¼-½ tsp per cup of flour for warming spices
- Snacks, like Popcorn - a small pinch per bowl to start, then more for extra flavor
- Drinks - start with a sprinkle
If you're using a salt-based blend (i.e. it has "salt" somewhere in its name), or infused salts, start with less than you think you need. They're more concentrated than standard seasoning blends and can easily make a dish too salty if used in the same amounts.
Start small - you can always add more if needed!
Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. A pantry or spice drawer is perfect - just don't leave them next to your stove or fridge, where moisture and heat can dull the flavors.
While dried herbs and spices don't truly expire, they do lose flavor over time. For the boldest, freshest results, we recommend the following shelf life guidelines based on peak potency:
- Seasoning Blends - 12-18 Months
- Dried Herbs - 1-2 Years
- Ground Spices - 1-2 Years
- Whole Spices & Seeds - 2-3 Years
We base our "Best Before" dates on industry research, ingredient type, and how often we blend and replenish stock - so you're always cooking with the good stuff.
To help your spices last as long as possible, store them in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight, with the lids and refill pouch zippers tightly sealed.
Some do, and some don't. We offer a variety of salt-free blends for those who want full control over their seasoning, as well as incredible infused salts and salt-based blends - like our Spice Craze® Savory Citrus Herb Salt.
Whether you're avoiding salt or craving a bold, flavorful finish, there's something for you. Each product description clearly lists the ingredients, so you'll always know exactly what's inside.
Only where it makes sense. Some of our blends may contain a touch of organic sugar to balance the flavors, but we keep it minimal and never use artificial sweeteners or fillers. If you prefer blends without any sugar, just check the ingredient lists - or ask us!
Because we never use anti-caking agents or synthetic additives, some natural clumping may occur - especially in blends that contain sea salt, citrus, or sugar. This is completely normal and a sign of clean, high-quality ingredients.
To loosen clumps, just give the jar a gentle shake or stir with a dry utensil. For long-term storage, keep in a cool, dry place with the lid (or refill pouch zipper) tightly sealed to reduce humidity exposure.
Our herbs are an all-natural, minimally processed product, which means you may occasionally see small leaves, stems, or twig-like bits - especially in varieties like thyme, rosemary, or oregano. These are simply natural parts of the plant, not contaminants or fillers.
We sift and sort carefully during blending and packaging, but we prioritize preserving the integrity and full flavor of each herb over excessive processing. If you prefer a finer texture, you can easily crumble or grind them further at home.

Spice Myths Busted
Not exactly! Spices don't spoil like milk, but they do lose their flavor and aroma over time. If a spice no longer smells vibrant or tastes bold like it used to, it's probably time for a refresh.
For the best results, we recommend buying in smaller amounts, storing them in a cool, dry place, and replacing them every 12-18 months to keep your cooking full of flavor.
It depends! Whole spices hold their flavor longer, but small-batch ground blends (like ours!) are super fresh and convenient. If you're using your spices regularly, you won't notice much difference.
Not at all! Spicy foods can cause temporary sensitivity, but they don't actually "burn" your taste buds. In fact, eating spice regularly can increase your tolerance and even enhance your ability to taste other flavors!
Technically yes - but you'd be leaving flavor on the table. Toasting, blooming, or grinding whole spices just before use can take your dish from good to unforgettable by releasing the most aromatic notes from your spices.
